Read About Solar Power in Virgina

Most electricity is currently being derived from fossil fuels, which can include natural gas and coal. When these fossil fuels are burned, they emit gasses that lead to air pollution and climate change. By using renewable energy, such as solar panels, the amount of pollution will decrease, which will lead to better overall health.

Climate change has led to temperatures around the globe increasing, which also leads to extreme weather conditions, like hotter summers, colder winters, more intense hurricanes, more frequent tornados, and dryer seasons, leading to more severe draughts and wildfires. Climate change is also causing the ice caps to melt which is putting more and more wild animals at risk every year and raising the water levels in the world’s oceans. The change in the weather due to climate change will also impact food- some places where food was once able to grow, crops are now struggling to grow, and when they do, they are less nutritious.

These fossil fuels are also limited, leading to fluctuations of prices. They are also finite, which means we will one day run out of these resources. Renewable energy sources are a much better option. Solar panels are a great investment because they cost little to operate, unlike fossil fuel production, which requires large amounts of water and leads to water pollution. Additionally, solar panels do not affect the water supply on our planet.

Solar Panels

Solar panels work to generate electrons when they are exposed to sunlight, which creates clean, renewable energy for your home. They do not release any fumes or emit any greenhouse gasses, making them good for the environment. They also do not release any carbon emissions. A home that has solar panels can reduce carbon emissions by 100 tons in 30 years.

Solar panels were invented in 1941 and were first sold commercially in 1954. Today, solar panels are still a great industry due to the amount of clean energy it produces.

Solar power systems are made out of three different types of solar panels- monocrystalline, polycrystalline, and amorphous.

1. Monocrystalline

Monocrystalline panels are the most common and efficient. They are made out of silicon, which is excellent at producing electricity. They also do not take up a lot of space and can handle high temperatures, as well as having a good lifespan. These panels often come with a 25 year warranty. The only downside to these panels is that they are more expensive than other types of solar panels, but with all the pluses, they are worth the investment.

2. Polycrystalline

Polycrystalline panels are less expensive than monocrystalline panels because, overall, they are easier and faster to manufacture. These panels do not produce as much energy as monocrystalline, are larger, and have a slightly shorter lifespan.

3. Amorphous

Amorphous panels are made out of thin layers of silicon, making them the most flexible of the three. They are the least efficient and have the shortest lifespan of the three types of solar panels, but they are ideal if you live in an area where there is not a lot of sunshine, because they can absorb the largest range of light on the light spectrum.

Solar Panels in Virginia

Virginia has many incentives for homeowners to use solar energy. One incentive is called net metering. Net metering is when you get credits toward your electricity bill for every hour of solar energy you send back to the main grid. If you use more electricity than you produce, you can use those credits to lessen your bill. There is also the Investment Tax Credit, which allows you to reduce the cost of instillation of your solar panels by 26%. Additionally, there is a state law in Virginia where solar power equipment is exempt from property taxes, so even if your property value goes up because of installing solar panels, you will not have to pay more on your local property taxes.

There are many solar companies in Virginia to choose from if you are looking into purchasing solar panels. Some of the highest rated companies are Nova Solar, in Falls Church, Virginia, BlueStar Solar Energy LLC, based in Lexington, Virginia, and Ipsun Solar and Southern Exposure Solar, which both have multiple locations across the state.

Solar panels in the state of Virginia cost, on average, about $2.89 a watt. On a panel the size of 5 kilowatts, installation is usually around $12,000 to $16,000 in the state of Virginia. If you were to apply home solar energy in Virginia, it is estimated that you will save $4,000 on your electricity bill after 20 years.
